Animal Procurement Policy and Procedure

ALL animals must be procured through the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources Business Office, 313-577-1107. Please have your protocol number, purchase order (PO) number, and animal specifics (weight, age, etc.) available when you place your order.

Deadlines for animal orders are necessary to permit administrative processing of all components of the order, and permit the animal supplier to insure availablity of required animals.

Deadlines

The deadlines for ordering from COMMERCIAL VENDORS are: Thursday at 2:00 for animals to be delivered the following week.

EXCEPTIONS: Jackson Laboratories or the National Institutes of Health: the deadline is 12:00 noon for animals to be delivered the following week.

Deadlines for animals from NON-COMMERCIAL VENDORS are also scheduled for Thursday at 2:00 for animals to be delivered the following week, however, please recognize that communications with veterinarians and animal care and use committees at sending institutions may take up to several weeks.
